School Caretaker

We are seeking a cheerful, friendly person with a ‘can do’ attitude who can turn their hand to most tasks willingly and without fuss. A background in building or similar trade would be highly favourable. 

In this role you will be tasked with keeping the school operational through general maintenance, liaising with tradespeople, cleaners, health and safety requirements and on site security. You must be computer literate, able to prioritise, use time effectively and be responsive to staff and students using your excellent communication skills. You will have oversight of the property team, comprising of groundstaff and general maintenance technician and you will work closely with the Business Manager to plan and carry out property work as outlined in the school's 10YP (10 Year Property Plan).

The ability to use initiative to proactively identify risks, hazards and carry out necessary maintenance work is a given. You will possess great hands-on skill and confidence in your ability to problem solve.


Knowledge and skills:

  • Previous experience managing a large site such as a school or similar environment.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to work autonomously but also be a strong team player.
  • Excellent problem solver and solutions focussed.
  • Building experience or a similar trade
  • Be willing to undergo a police vet.


This is a position that is available January 28, 2025 and is covered by the School Caretakers Cleaners and Canteen Staff Collective Agreement. Salary is dependent on qualifications and experience.

Hours are 9.00am to 4.00pm (negotiable), (52 weeks per year), and the successful candidate must be willing to be on call for emergency situations like security breaches/alarm activations during the weekend and after hours.
